THE FACULTY OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCE

HISTORY


The Faculty of Natural and applied science was established i october 2001 alongside the inception of the university. At inception the Faculty started with four academic departments namely;
Biological science
Chemistry
Mathematical sciences
Physics
In october 2002, the department of Geography as well as Geology and Mining came on-board.The department of Biochemistry and Molecular biology was established as the latest department in 2006

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Candidates for admission into any of the B.Sc. degree programmes in the Faculty of Natural and applied sciences must satisfy the University's minimum entry requirements, which stipulate five 5 credits in the GCE-O Level, NECO or WAEC(in not more than two sittings) and these must include Biology, Chemistry and Physics, in addition to credit passes in Mathematics and English Language

In addition to the above requirements,candidates seeking admission into the 100level must sit and pass the University Matriculation Examination(UME) administered by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB)
Candidates for Direct Entry admission must have obtained minimum of credit passes at the National Diploma in a subjectrelated to the chosen course in the Faculty or must have obtained GCE-A Level or IJMB passes of which two of the passes must include Physics, Chemistry,Geography,Geology,Biology or Mathematics, in addition to O-level passes in Mathematics and English language.

IT DEVELOPMENT

The Faculty is pioneering the IT development projects of the University under the Chairmanship of the Dean of Natural Scieces. The IT secretariat is located in the Computer science Laboratory of the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

LABORATORIES
Our Laboratories are genuinely and moderately equipped and in ralative terms better many other Feaderal Universities. The University has a Gas spectrometer, UV-Visible Spectrometer and Absorbtion Spectrometer and a host of many other equipments within the various departments. The Faculty is fully prapared for training, teaching, research and consultancy services. We have introduced skeletal postgraduate programmes in the Faculty with a focus of in-house training of our staff to go to other Universities for Postgraduate training.

PROFESSORIAL CHAIR:
At the convocation of the University which held on 18th February 2006, His Excellency the then President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, endowed a professorial chair in Geology and Mining for the University.Although the Chair is yet to take off, we are enormously grateful to bthe former President, to the Government of Nasarawa State, the chairman of the Governing council, Dr. Rilwanu Lukman and the Vice Chancellor. Prof Adamu Baike all of who encouraged the former President to put his first professorial endowment at the Nasarawa State University and indeed in the Faculty of Natural and applied sciences
