NSUK GETS NEW ICT DIRECTOR
The Vice Chancellor has approved the appointment of Dr Dennis Onyekwelu as the direstor of the information and technology unit of the university.
He hails from Orumba South in Anambra state,was born on the 1st January, 1944 in Enugu-Umuonyia. Heattended the University of Leeds, England, UK 1976-1979 for his Post Secondary Education were he bagged a PH.D in computer studies, M.Sc in 1976 from the same school and Department. He graduated from the University of Nigeria Nnsukka in 1973 with a second class upper division in Mathematics(B.Sc). He had his secondary education at Chris the King College(CKC) Onitsha, Anambra State were he came out with a WAEC(Div1) in 1963 and a HSC/GCE(AL) in 1965
Dr Dennis C. Onyekwelu has also undergone some short term Professional Training among which are
i Strategic Communication for Development by the World Bank, Abuja in 2001,
ii Internet Society's INET 99s at the University of San Jose, California in 1999 on Management of the National Networks
iii International Center for Theoretical Physics(ICTP) in 1998 on Radio Communication and Wireless Local Area Networks
iv DISC TECHNODATA in canada in 1991 on computer networks and so many others.
The newly appointed Director of the Information Technology Center, Dr Denis C. Onyekwelu, has assumed duty. He officially asumed duty at the University on 1st March, 2008. Prior to his appointment as Director of ICT, he work in various capacities and held various positions, which include: Coordinator computer science program National Mathematical center, Abuja(2004-2008); Director and Head of Information and communication Technology, National Universities Commission, Abuja(1991-2003); Chairman, Nigerian Universities Network(1996-2001); Chairman praparation committee, World Bank Assiated Nigerian University System Innovation Project(NUSIP),NUC Abuja,(1999-2002); Member of Governing council (Representing NUC)of Delta State University, Abraka(2002-2003), member of Board of Trustees(Representin NUC) Nigeria Internet Group(NIG)(1996-2001); External Examiner in computer science for Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi(2004-2006); External Examiner in computer science for the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa(2007 till date); Senior Lecturer and AG Head of Technology(ASUTECH), Enugu(1988-1991); Anambra State University of Research Division, Institute of computer science University of Benin(1980-1988); Member of British Compter Society(1986); Fellow of Nigerian Computer Society since 1998. Dr. Onyekwelu has published many papers in Computer science and Operation Research.
