DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

M. O. Aremu holds B.Sc (Industrial chemistry), M.Sc (Chemistry) and PhD (Industrial Chemistry) from three Nigerian Universities of Ilorin, Lagos and Ado-Ekiti, respectively specializing in food/analytical and bio industrial chemistry. He teaches pure and applied chemistry at Nasarawa State University, keffi (NSUK). Nigeria. He has published a number of scientific papers in different national and international journals of repute and serving in editorial board as peer-reviewer for several journals. He is a member of many learned societies (IJCS) published by the department of chemistry, NSUK. He has also contributed to quite number of edited books chapters and book of conferences proceedings. Dr. ‘Leke Aremu is a life member and regional convener (Nigeria) of National Environmental Society Academy, New Delhi, India.

BRIEF HISTORY OF CHEMISTRY DEPATMENT
The Department of Chemistry was one of the foundation Departments in Nasarawa State University, keffi when the University was created in October 2001. It started with a degree programme in Chemistry at the inception of the university 2001/2002 academic session, and introduced a degree programme with option in pure chemistry or industrial chemistry in 2003/2004 academic session. The major objective of the department is to provide its students with a broad-based knowledge of modern theoretical, practical and applied chemistry. The courses offer in the department fall under the broad headings of physical, organic, inorganic, analytical and applied chemistry. However, as much as possible the unity of the subject is emphasized throughout the courses. Department of Chemistry got NUC full accreditation of its programmes in November, 2007.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for entry to the degree programmes of the department must satisfy the University minimum entrance requirements. Such requirements are met by the possession of National Examination Council (NECO), West African Examination Council (WAEC), Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) or the School certificate/ General Certicate of Education Ordinary Level (SC/GCE O/level) with passes at credit level ( or above) which include chemistry, Mathematics, English language and Physics.

Pure Chemistry: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Agricultural Sciences.
Industrial Chemistry: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
