Professor ONYENEKWE, Paul Chidozie hails from Ikeduru LGA of Imo state. His area of specialization is Food Biochemistry & Toxicology/ Biotechnology. His academic qualifications include; B.Sc Biochemistry (UNIBEN, 1985), M.SC Biochemistry (ABU, 1989), PhD Biochemistry (ABU, 1993). He has authored many publications both local and international and has membership with many organisation which include; Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biotechology Society of Nigeria, Institute of Food Technologists (USA), Eurotox (European Societies of Toxicology), Alexander von Humboldt Club of Nigeria. He has numbers of papers and publications to his credit; also he is a member of lots of committee and had served in many capacities. His wealth of experience led to his appointment as the Deputy Dean of the Postgraduate School.

BREIF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department started in 2006/2007 academic session with sixty four students and three lecturers. Professor P C Onyenekwe was the first Head of Department.
Philosophy
To produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology but are equipped to contribute towards national science and technology development through the exposition of the graduates to the fundamental principles and practical applications of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Aims/Objectives
(i) To expose the students to the fundamental principles of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology hence instilling in them the appreciation of the chemistry of life
(ii) To expose the students to practical applications of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology thereby inculcating in them the ability to apply their knowledge in solving human problems
(iii) To provide students with knowledge and skill base for further studies in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology or other areas involving Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Admission Requirement
For admission into the degree programme candidates should have obtained credits in the following five subjects Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English Language .GCE O’Level, NECO or WAEC (in not more than two sittings)
Admission into the 100 level of the degree programme will normally be through University Matriculation Examination (UME) of the Joint Admission Matriculation Examination.
Candidates for the direct entry admission must have obtained minimum of credit passes at the National Diploma in related courses, or must have obtained GCE – A Level or IJMB passes of which two of the passes must include Chemistry and Biology, in addition to O’Level credits passes in Mathematics, Physics and English language.
Students of the Preliminary Studies Programme (Science) of the Nasarawa State University, who satisfactorily pass the end of session examinations in that programme, may be considered for admission into the four year degree programme.
